My Side Of The Mountain

           If you are looking for a really good book that you can’t put down and you have to just keep reading without a thought of anything that goes on in the world around you then do not read My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. I only read this book because I had to, otherwise I would not have gotten past the first chapter.

            My Side of the Mountain is about a boy named Sam who wants to escape the busy city of New York and just go look for his great-grandfather Gribley’s  farm and live there. This book might appeal to you if you are planning to leave your life and go live in a tree (literally). It could work as a guide, but as entertainment? This book does not fall under that category. Unless you really love nature and the wilderness, I would not recommend opening this book.

Extra Credit

  Extra Credit by Andrew Clements, is about a girl named Abby, who is doing so poorly in school that she is threatened to be held back. Her only solution is to get A's on all of her tests and extra credit. Abby's extra credit is to write letters back and forth with a pen pal from somewhere around the world. Because of her love of climbing rock walls, Abby chooses the mountainous area of Kabul, Afghanistan. She also has to make a bulletin board with all of her letters, Abby is perfectly fine with showing her letters to the public; she doesn't need to keep her letters private. The project starts with a few friendly letters back and forth but when Abby receives one letter, she rethinks her whole privacy policy.
     I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic fiction and anyone who has an open mind. I liked this book; it was the kind of book I didn't want to put down.

The Schwa Was Here

Curl up on a couch, wrap yourself up in blankets and grab yourself some time and The Schwa was Here by Neal Shusterman.  Once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down until the last word. I would recommend this book to anyone. It posseses a fantasy character with a mysterious past, a great amount of emotion, not to mention humor and it is realistic. On top of all that, it has the best chapter names I have ever heard. If you like twists, turns and unpredictable endings, this book is especially for you.

Avalon High by Meg Cabot

When Ellie's professor parents go on their sabbatical  to Annapolis, Maryland, Ellie thinks that her life will be wasted for that year. But when she meets Will she starts to take a slight interest in the subject that her parents study, King Arthur. Ellie starts to learn more about an ancient organization called "the Order of the Bear" which believes that one day King Arthur will be reincarnated. I don't find the King Arthur topic very interesting myself but I really like this book and the print size is not too small. This book would make a good read for people who like a small mystery and a romance. The title is not nearly as superficial as it sounds.

Scat by Carl Hiaasen

      On his trip to the Black Vine Swamp, Nick hopes to see an endangered Floridian panther. But when a “wildfire” breaks out, the whole class has to retreat the wild swamp. Mrs. Starch, the most feared biology teacher, bravely goes back into the fiery swamp to search for a student’s asthma inhaler. The other two chaperones take the kids back to school but their biology teacher does not return. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes nature, realistic fiction, lots of emotion and a slight mystery. I love this book because it proves that anything is possible if you choose to believe so.
